Helen Tarleton, LCSW, Joins Nashville Psych As Full-Time Therapist
Starting in August, Helen Tarleton will be expanding her role at Nashville Psych to full-time therapist. Tarleton first joined our team in a part-time capacity in the Fall of 2021. Tarleton recently retired from the University School of Nashville (USN), where she worked in various capacities for almost three decades, most recently serving as Middle School Director of Counseling and Resources.
“Helen is beloved by so many in Nashville – and for good reason,” said Dan Goldstein, Clinical Director and Co-Founder of Nashville Psych. “She is warm, insightful, passionate, well respected for her clinical work, and widely appreciated for her many contributions to the fields of social work and education. We feel incredibly fortunate to have her on our team and are excited to have her take on a larger role.”
Tarleton brings over thirty years of experience working with adults, couples, and teens, helping them to overcome challenges, heal from challenging experiences, repair relationships, and reach their full potential. Helen assists clients in navigating life transitions; grief; trauma; anxiety; depression; phobias; chronic illness; sexual assault; LGBTQIA+ issues; parenting difficulties; pre-marital concerns; and the unique struggles experienced by caregivers. She is EMDR-trained and a certified mental health integrative medicine practitioner. Additionally, she has training in the non-somatic (psycho-spiritual) treatment principles of traditional Chinese Medicine. Her latest educational endeavor is working toward a residential certification in Japanese Psychology.
In her therapeutic work with clients, Tarleton incorporates a wide range of theoretical orientations, including psychodynamic, intersubjective, and Eastern Psychology-influenced therapeutic methods. Most importantly, Helen understands the value of a compassionate therapeutic relationship based on respect, non judgment, honesty and warmth.
Tarleton earned her Master’s in Social Work at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She also earned a Master’s degree in Special Education from McDaniel College. For her undergraduate studies, Helen attended Wesleyan University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in the History of Science. Tarleton is a member of the National Association of Social Workers.
